Dental Cleaning

The patient receives an injection into the vein to make them sleepy.

A tube is placed in the trachea (the airway).  This provides oxygen and anesthetic gas.  It also prevents any water from getting into the airway during the teeth cleaning.

The monitoring equipment is placed on the patient.  This machine monitors blood pressure, an electrocardiogram, heart rate, and blood oxygenation.

The patient's mouth is examined and any missing teeth, fractured teeth, or other abnormalities are noted on the dental chart.

The patient's teeth are then cleaned with the ultrasonic scaler, which is very similar to what is used in a human dental office.

After cleaning, the teeth are polished.
