Surgery Time

The patient is weighed so that the correct amount of anesthetic drugs is given.

An anesthetic drug is given into the vein to make the patient begin to feel sleepy.

The patient is intubated (a tube is placed in the trachea) and connected to the anesthesia machine.  This machine provides oxygen and an inhaled anesthesia gas to keep the patient unconscious throughout the surgery.

The monitoring equipment is hooked up.  This equipment allows us to monitor heart rate, respiratory rate, the ECG pattern (signals from the heart), oxygen level in the patient, and blood pressure.

The surgery site is clipped...

...and then scrubbed.  Our patient is now ready for surgery!
